Consultation path

A measured path from enquiry to written advice

Financial advice works best when both sides know the stages. This page sets out how a Thamespoint consultation typically runs, whether you are mapping retirement income or checking protection gaps.

Adviser presenting notes during a consultation
  1. Enquiry. You send a short note via the contact form or phone. We confirm whether we can help and share a provisional fee range.
  2. Fee proposal. You receive a written engagement letter describing scope, price, and what is excluded. Nothing further happens until you accept.
  3. Documents. A checklist covers pension statements, ISA valuations, mortgage offers, or protection schedules—only what the engagement needs.
  4. Discovery meeting. Usually 60–90 minutes by video or in St. VonRueden. We clarify goals, dependants, and constraints such as a remortgage deadline.
  5. Recommendations. A second meeting presents written advice. You keep the document whether or not you ask us to help implement it.
  6. Follow-up. Flagship engagements include a short call within 30 days for questions that arise after you reread the plan at home.

What to bring to the first meeting

Recent payslips or accounts if self-employed, latest pension and ISA statements, mortgage illustration or offer, and any existing life or income protection schedules. A State Pension forecast helps retirement conversations enormously.

If papers are incomplete, say so early. We would rather schedule a second discovery slot than guess at figures.
