Refunds & cancellations
Last updated: 4 August 2026
Scope
This policy applies to paid advice engagements with Thamespoint Financial Counsel—such as Retirement Income Mapping, portfolio reviews, protection assessments, inheritance tax planning reviews, and mortgage advice consultations. This website does not sell physical goods or run online checkout.
Eligibility
Fees paid for advice work may be refunded in full or in part depending on how far the engagement has progressed and whether a cooling-off right applies under your engagement letter.
Timeframe
Where a statutory cooling-off period applies to distance contracts for financial advice services, you may cancel within the period stated in your engagement letter (often 14 days from signing, subject to exceptions if work has begun with your agreement). Outside cooling-off, refund requests should be raised within 30 days of the invoice date or the event giving rise to the request.
Full refunds
A full refund is typically available if you cancel before we have begun substantive work (for example, before document review or the discovery meeting) and within any applicable cooling-off window. Deposits held solely to reserve a meeting slot are returned in full if we cancel the slot.
Partial refunds
If discovery has occurred or documents have been reviewed, we may retain a fair portion of the fee reflecting time already spent and refund the balance. The split is confirmed in writing.
Non-refundable items
Third-party costs already incurred with your approval—such as lender valuation fees paid onward—are not refundable by us. Time spent on completed written recommendations that you have received is ordinarily non-refundable.
Work already started
Once we have started analysing statements or drafting recommendations with your consent during a cooling-off period, you may be asked to pay for work performed. We will explain this before continuing.
Deposits
Some engagements ask for a deposit to secure diary time. Deposits are credited against the final fee. Unused deposits are refundable under the rules above.
Cancellation & rescheduling
You may reschedule a meeting with at least 48 hours’ notice at no charge. Cancellations inside 48 hours may forfeit the deposit for that meeting if we cannot fill the slot. We will offer a new date promptly when we must cancel.
No-shows
If you miss a scheduled meeting without notice, we may charge for the reserved time or require a new deposit before rebooking.
Refund process & method
Email hello@smartwebtech.digital with your name, engagement reference, and reason. Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method within 14 working days of approval. Processing by your bank may take additional days.

Exceptions
Statutory rights under UK consumer and financial services law remain unaffected. Mortgage-related fees paid to lenders follow the lender’s own refund rules, which we will flag when known.
